Thames Ditton Infant School

Loving Learning and Growing Together

New Reception September 2024

Welcome to Thames Ditton Infant school. We are delighted you have chosen this school for your child and cannot wait to meet you and the children.

To support the start of your time at TDI, we would like to share our transition plans which will take place between now and September:

From 22nd April an email will be sent to the person who completed the initial application for admission for your child with links to our admission forms.

2nd May - Acorns, our Breakfast, After-School and Holiday Club, will be sending out information about our extended services and the registration process.

May/June

  • All relevant nurseries will be contacted to arrange opportunities to discuss the children currently listed in their setting, either through visits to the settings or telephone meetings.

June

  • Friday 7th June - 'Acorns' Open event for new Reception parents to find out more about Acorns, our Breakfast, After-School and Holiday Club. Click here to book your space.
  • Towards the end of the month an information pack will come via email which will contain additional information including your child’s class teacher for September.
  • Dates will be sent out for 1:1 meetings and your child’s first day at school.
  • After you have received your class allocation, there will be a video of the class teacher/s reading a story for the children.
  • Dates of your child’s small group day and then full time start of school will be sent to you at the end of June.

July

  • We will be hosting a child/parent afternoon. This will be an opportunity for you and your child to come and visit their classroom, meet the teacher and ask any questions you may have. There will also be refreshments in the hall and an opportunity to meet our Head and Assistant Head teacher if you have any questions for them.

September

  • Every child will have a 1-1 meeting in their classroom where you will be able to speak with the class teacher and your child can explore the setting.
  • Your child will receive a social story which shares photos and simple sentences to support them in understanding what to expect when they start school.
  • Your child’s first day will be in a small group, before having a day with the whole class a few days later. This is to lower any apprehension children may have before they all start together. Dates of your child’s small day and then full time start of school will be sent to you at the end of June.

If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch. You can email Mrs Ball at: eyfs@thames-ditton-infant.surrey.sch.uk (this email is monitored weekly when Mrs Ball is out of class so please don’t expect an instant reply)
