At Thames Ditton Infant School, we are committed to serving our community and promoting values that foster a respectful, inclusive, and democratic society. We recognise the multicultural and multifaith nature of the United Kingdom and take seriously our responsibility to ensure that no individual or group within our school is subjected to discrimination, intimidation, or radicalisation.
We follow national equal opportunities guidance, ensuring that all pupils are treated fairly, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political views, or financial background. Our school aims to prepare pupils for life beyond the classroom, and we actively promote the core British values outlined in the Government’s 2011 Prevent Strategy.
Children are given opportunities to have their voices heard. Democratic processes are used within the school for important decisions and pupil feedback is valued and encouraged.
The importance of laws—whether governing the class, school, or country—is reinforced daily. Pupils learn the reasons behind rules, the responsibilities they carry, and the consequences when they are broken. Our school rules and Behaviour for Learning Policy support this understanding.
Within a safe and supportive environment, pupils are encouraged to make choices and express themselves. Through activities such as e-safety and PSHE lessons, we help children understand their rights and how to exercise them safely and respectfully.
Respect is one of our core school values. Pupils are taught that their actions affect themselves and others. All members of the school community are expected to treat one another with respect, and this is embedded throughout our teaching and interactions.
Our school promotes understanding of different cultures and religions through our curriculum and daily life. Pupils are encouraged to share their own beliefs and learn about others, and we celebrate a wide range of cultural events and festivals throughout the year.
We are proud to promote a learning environment where every child is valued and supported to become a thoughtful, respectful, and active citizen.
