Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP)

At Thames Ditton Infant School, we are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive. Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP) refers to the support, strategies, adjustments and resources that schools are expected to provide as part of high-quality teaching and learning for all pupils, including those with additional needs. OAP aims to remove barriers to learning, promote independence, and ensure that children can fully participate in school life and achieve their potential.

Most children with additional needs or disabilities can be supported through Ordinarily Available Provision without the need for a formal diagnosis. This support may include adaptations to teaching, targeted interventions, adjustments to the learning environment, and access to appropriate resources and equipment.

The Surrey Ordinarily Available Provision Guidance has been developed to help schools, parents and carers understand the range of support that should be available within mainstream schools. The guidance also encourages positive partnership working between schools and families to ensure children receive the right support at the right time.
