At Thames Ditton Infant School, attendance in school is always our priority. Young children learn best through face-to-face teaching, routines and relationships.
Remote learning is not an alternative to attending school and is only used in exceptional circumstances, in line with Department for Education guidance.
Remote learning may be provided:
When attendance is restricted for a group of pupils, or
In limited and agreed circumstances, where a child is unable to attend school for a period of time but is well enough to learn.
Remote learning is always intended to be short-term, with a clear focus on supporting a child’s return to school as soon as possible.
To support clarity for families:
Remote learning is not provided for short-term absences, such as minor illness or medical appointments.
Teachers are not expected to provide live lessons for short individual absences.
If a child is unwell, we encourage rest and recovery before returning to school.
We use Google Classroom to support communication and learning in an age-appropriate and manageable way.
It may be used to:
Share curriculum information and weekly learning overviews
Provide learning during longer periods of absence or exceptional circumstances
EYFS and KS1 pupils are not expected to access Google Classroom independently.
