PSHE & Wellbeing

At Thames Ditton Infant School, we are committed to supporting the wellbeing of every child. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, happy and valued. Wellbeing underpins everything we do and is central to our school values of kindness, respect and co-operation.

We support children to understand their emotions, build positive relationships and develop the confidence and resilience they need to thrive both in school and beyond.

Wellbeing is a key part of our PSHE curriculum and is also woven through all aspects of school life.

Good wellbeing is when I feel good in my head, my heart and my body.

Our school's wellbeing logo explained:

What I can do to feel good in my body:

  • Sleeping well
  • Eating healthily
  • Exercising
  • Keeping clean
  • Taking time to relax

What I can do to feel good in my head (mind):

  • Talking about my feelings
  • Thinking about what I can do to help any uncomfortable feelings
  • Sharing my worries or uncomfortable feelings
  • Asking for help
  • Celebrating what makes me unique and special

What I can do to feel good in my heart:

  • Knowing that I have good relationships with family, friends and other important people in my life who help me to have a healthy mind (head) and body.
  • Talking about who is special to me and helps me to feel loved, cared for and safe.
  • Talking about who I can share my worries and uncomfortable feelings with.
  • Talking about who helps me to feel resilient and proud

How we support wellbeing

Wellbeing is taught and developed in a range of ways across our school.

Through our curriculum, particularly PSHE, children learn about emotions, relationships, keeping healthy and how to ask for help. These lessons support children to develop self-awareness, empathy and resilience.

Wellbeing is also embedded in daily school life. We prioritise positive relationships, provide opportunities for children to talk and be heard, and create a calm and supportive environment where all children feel a sense of belonging.

We also support children through:

  • Caring and consistent relationships with staff
  • Opportunities to talk and share feelings
  • Assemblies and themed events that promote wellbeing
  • Targeted support where needed

Support for families

We recognise that from time to time, children and families may need additional support. If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance.

You can also contact a member of our wellbeing or safeguarding team (via the School Office e-mail). They will be happy to listen and offer support.

We are here to work in partnership with you to ensure every child feels supported, safe and ready to learn.
