We run a Breakfast Club from 7:15am and an Afterschool Club from 3 - 6.15pm every day of the school week.

At Acorns, children will learn to solve problems, make decisions and take acceptable risks through a range of fun and challenging outdoor activities. Based on different stories each week and a forest school ethos, sessions will offer children activities to stimulate their imagination and give them experiences and skills they can transfer into all aspects of life. They will benefit from understanding boundaries (both physical and social), use tools appropriately and enjoy the time to explore their environment and learn about nature.

Please only contact the club within the club running times if there is an emergency or change in collection details.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DAILY TIMETABLE

Our new wraparound provision is child led, and offers opportunities and activities that are not offered with standard wraparound providers. It is important to us that each child enjoys their sessions with us. For this reason we will offer three different activities at different bases each day:

Base 1: Field or playground - A sports activity

Base 2: Garden Room - Art or Cookery

Base 3: Treetops - Wellbeing or Nature Activity

We look forward to sharing examples of these very soon!

The drop-off and pick-up times are completely flexible, however please note our times for serving food should your child need it.

 

Breakfast Club

Our Breakfast Club opens from 7:15am and is a great way for the children to start their day. They will be offered a healthy breakfast, a light activity and a chance to get ready for their school day.

Breakfast will stop being served at 8:15am. 

 

After School Club

Our After School Club will run from the close of the school day until 6:15pm. The timetable is as follows:

CLUB DETAILS

What are the timings for Acorns?

Our morning session runs from 7:15am.

Our afternoon session runs 3 pm - 6.15pm.

How much does it cost?

The prices of the three sessions are currently as follows.

  • the morning session from 7:15am will cost £7.00
  • the afternoon session will cost £20.00

Will your clubs be able to take more children?

We are hoping to extend provision to have more places and activities in the future. When we are in a position to extend the existing provision to accommodate more children, we will inform you.

Does the school have plans to open Acorns in the holidays?

This is not something the school intends to do at present; however, we are exploring holiday club options with other providers.

Can you tell me about the staff who will work in the Clubs?

We run at a 1:10 adult to child ratio. Our staff at Acorns are a mix of our own trusted and high quality staff, and a selection of newly recruited enthusiastic, inspiring and passionate individuals.

All staff will be DBS checked to Enhanced Level and will receive training in Play work/ Childcare. 

We will always have a Paediatric First Aid trained member of staff on site.

Staff receive ongoing training in various aspects of child supervision and care, including safeguarding, behaviour management, child protection and activity delivery.

Please note that all bookings, both regular permanent sessions and ad-hoc bookings require you

to complete a Registration Form.

 

How can I book a regular session in Breakfast and/or Afterschool Club?

Please email acorns@thames-ditton-infant.surrey.sch.uk to check on availability. If there is space, your child can start attending Acorns as soon as we complete your registration. If there is no availability, we will keep you on a waiting list.

How do I pay?

You can book and pay directly via your ScoPay (Balances section) account using online payments.

Can I pay with Childcare Vouchers/Tax Free Childcare?

We are Ofsted registered so you can pay with Childcare Vouchers / Tax Free Childcare.

What is the booking deadline for ad-hoc Breakfast Club and After School Club sessions?

Please book one full week in advance, if there is availability.

Do you offer sibling discounts?

We do not offer sibling discounts. This is because each child requires as much care and attention as the next and we will not compromise on our staffing.

CANCELLATIONS

How can I cancel a permanent block booking?

Please provide one half-term's notice of your intention to cancel your regular sessions. Further details can be found in our Terms and Conditions below.

My child is going to be absent or I need to cancel a one off session, what should I do?

If your session is cancelled with less than a week’s notice, you will still be expected to pay for your session. This is because we will still be expected to pay the club staff and the food, resources and activities will already have been arranged.

Will I get a refund?

Yes – you can cancel and receive a refund for a one-off session. The following notice is required:

  • 1 week or more notice of the booking date – 100% credit to account

  • Less than 1 week of the booking date – no credit offered

Do I need to inform you if I cancel a booking?

It is the parents’ responsibility to inform the school if their child is not attending and you will need to send an email to Acorns email to cancel a booking.

Due to high demand, if a child regularly misses their booked slot, the school will contact you to discuss the reasons for non-attendance. 

Can I swap days?

For breakfast and after school clubs you can cancel sessions in accordance with the cancellation notice above. If there is availability, you can then book new sessions. You need to ring or email Acorns to arrange this.

DROP-OFFS & COLLECTIONS

Where do I drop off and pick up my child/children?

The double gates that lead into the playground from St. Nicholas Road.

Will Acorns take my child to their classroom/teacher?

For the morning session, children will be dropped to their classroom and teacher.

How will my child get to Acorns after school?

In the afternoon session children will be collected from their classroom.

Can my child also attend an extra-curricular club after school?

Your child can attend a school run extra-curricular club after school. Please notify Acorns and the club in advance if your child is attending an extracurricular club. The club will deliver your child to Acorns.

When can I drop them off and pick them up?

Parents/carers can drop off at the breakfast club anytime from 7.15am.

Parents/carers can collect from the after school club at any time 5:30pm until 6.15pm.

All children must be signed out by 6.15pm.  Only people listed on the registration and who are 16 years of age or older can collect.

What happens if I am running late?

We understand that at times parents/guardians may be running behind schedule, and we will always ensure that we do our utmost to support our families where possible. If a child is collected late, it has a knock on effect on our teams and therefore we will apply a late fee to your account. If you are running behind schedule and your child will be collected late, please make sure you notify us in advance.

In the event of a child not being collected on time, we will attempt to call the parents/guardians. If we are unable to make contact, we will follow our safeguarding policy/uncollected child policy. We always strive to offer parents/guardians the support needed, however, if late collections become a reoccurring event, we reserve the right to withdraw our service.

What happens if someone else needs to pick up my child?

Only people listed on your Registration Form can pick up your child.  You can easily change this by informing the school. Staff will only release children to your named people and if they can state your Magic Word on collection. Any person collecting your child must be over 16 years of age.

SAFEGUARDING

What safeguarding procedures are in place?

The comprehensive high safeguarding policies and procedures exercised at Thames Ditton Infant School will be in place for Acorns.

The Acorns Manager on duty will be the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for each session. All staff will be safeguarding trained and there will always be a first aider on site. Access to medical equipment, supplies and records will be available.
